Meet Dan Specht
Dan Specht moved from the Okanagan to Chetwynd in the mid-2000s for work as a heavy equipment operator. When the work dried up, he wondered what to do next. He had a family to support, and he considered moving back to the Okanagan. However, he was happy in his new Chetwynd home and his son was settled in school.
In addition to operating equipment, Dan had also done roofing for many years. As he began looking for work, he discovered that there was a shortage of contractors in the area, and roofers in particular. He decided to strike out on his own. Working for himself allowed him some flexibility with his schedule, meaning that he would be able to drop his son off at school in the morning and be there to pick him up in the afternoon. Since then, Dan’s company has grown. He now employees three to four staff year-round and many more tradesmen during busy seasons and for large projects.
Dan likes to travel when he can, especially to visit his family in the Okanagan. However, Chetwynd is always home to him. He likes its small town atmosphere and friendly residents. He also appreciates its expanse of wilderness, where he can sometimes be found quadding with his family in his spare time.
